Thankful

Do you ever have those moments when you stop and think and you are overcome with gratefulness?
I have so many things to be grateful for:
sunshine
new friends
opportunities
fun people to work with

visiting my Polish family
a beautiful town to explore

phone calls from old school friends

skype conversations with friends afar

plenty of food in the fridge and cupboards
a lovely flat to live in plus a lovely flatmate

finding chai latte powder in the supermarket
a God who knows me, loves me, provides for me, stands by me and forgives me.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
James 1 v17

Mother's Day

Mother's day is always a tough one for me.

My Mummy passed away when I was 10 leaving a hole in my life and in my upbringing.
With each year her memory fades a little more and each year I fight to keep her in rememberance.

Christine Dorrington was a

Teacher. She taught primary school and sunday school classes.

Musician. I remember her playing various instruments and even as she was incredibly ill she listened to me practise every day.

Pioneer. She started a sunday school from scratch after we moved to the village I grew up in. At the start I was the only child, but it grew!

Leader. She was heavily involved in our small village church and in leading mothers union groups across the south of England.

Artist. Alhough she was not gifted in drawing (I inherited that from her) she was incredible at various handicrafts. She used to make all my clothes as I was growing up.

Fighter. For years she fought with illness, never giving up. She spent her last months bedridden but continued being all these things.

Today I remember my Mummy. I remember the impact she had on my life, the values she instilled in me actively and those I picked up subconsiously too. I remember her faith and her hope. I remember her love and her leadership. She is my role model and example in so many areas. I hope to follow in her footprints. I hope to live out her inheritance.

Today I also think of all the mothers God has brought into my life. The amazing women who have become mother figures for me. I am thankful for the influence of godly women upon my life and I know Mummy would have been too.
